Party like it's 1813!!
For those of you who missed it or could not see it in your country - I am posting the youtube video for the
BBC documentary; Having A Ball.
They recreated the Netherfield Ball in Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.
I am amazed at the details and the nuances. A ball really was meant for getting you hitched.
It shines a whole new light on Lizzy's discomfiture when Mr Collins asked for the first two dances with her. In those days that meant Mr Collins was clearly stating his intentions - he wanted Lizzy for his wife and everyone in Merryton would have known about it!
Also as a vegetarian, the array of meat that was on offer at the dining table was astounding! However, it was indeed a true work of art which is sadly lost to us now.
Take a look - see the Netherfield Ball as those living in 1813 would have seen it upon reading Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice for the first time!
